If you live in the US you’ve probably never heard of Tudor watches. But that is all soon to change as this Rolex-owned company is revitalizing their marketing efforts and hoping to hit the US market. This new line of Tudor watches is a bit more sporty looking than the Rolex and it will be a tad cheaper also. The GranTour watch was inspired by auto racing which is evident in the vintage-like dials and strap. It is a three-hand model at 41mm wide and has automatic mechanical movements. Other features include up to 150 meters of water resistance, a perforated leather strap and black lacquer bezel. It will be interesting to see how this does in the US market. $TBA.
Here is a new timepiece based on the new Rolex DeepSea Sea-Dweller watch. But give this watch a good look because it’s not just a Rolex but an after-market modification. The Jacques Piccard SingleRed DeepSea Watch is a limited edition, so only 86 pieces will be sold. The watch has a DLC coating, engraving on the caseback and it comes with a NATO strap and a book by the Belgian explorer, Jacques Piccard who died at the age of 86. (Hence the 86 limited pieces). To buy this watch it is shipped from the Netherlands. 12,900€.
Rolex recently lost its lawsuit against eBay regarding the sale of counterfeit knock-off watches on the auction site. A German court ruled in favor of eBay, stating that the site was doing enough to curb the sale of fake Rolexes. This however could be bittersweet for eBay in the longrun, making the site less trustworthy among luxury buyers. However, if we put this in perspective, people shouldn’t and seldom buy expensive watches on eBay anyways… and if you’re buying a “Rolex” on eBay anyway, you’re probably more than aware of its dubious authenticity, and probably couldn’t care less, anyways. Real wristwatch aficionados apparently don’t do eBay.
