The Golden Tourbillon Panoramique Grey Sapphire Watch by Corum is a limited edition of only five pieces and one could guess it’s because of the fragility of the synthetic sapphire crystals. During the fabrication process when cut into organic shapes it causes a lot of stress and the sapphires easily break so the finished result if mesmerizing but the actual process to get there is painstaking. The manually wound tourbillon movement with 90 hour power reserve has mainplate and bridges that are all in sapphire which is an amazing feat. The case is made of 18k white gold with 309 diamonds and four sapphire crystals. Jaws will drop when the price is announced on this luxurious watch. $TBA.

Engineering marvels are best appreciated when you can see them. What’s the point of having a new and unique movement when you can’t see them right? That’s exactly how Corum feels so they are showcasing their second in-house caliber, the CO 007 and showing its inner workings. Instead of having a round case with the elements oriented in a circle, Corum uses two bridges at the center where all of the workings of the movement are rested. Titanium is used on the bridges and the tonneau-shaped case for the material’s lightness. The lightweight comes at a price though, titanium is hard to shape and fashion in a watch so the fact that Corum can make complicated shapes in this watch stamps their fine manufacturing skills.
