Sarpaneva Korona K3

You’d be forgiven into thinking that all master watchmakers are within the confines of the Swiss border. There are other hopeful optimists out there who want to carve out a name and niche for themselves and Stepan Sarpaneva is one of them. The Finnish horologist brought out his first mechanical watch 10 years ago with the Time Tramp and he follows it up with the Korona K3. As the only mechanical watchmaker in all of Finland, Stepan devoted his time and effort in developing the Korona. He primarily uses steel for the cases but he opted for gold this time, to satisfy his loyal followers. The 42mm rose gold case on the Korona has a radical design, from the scalloped look front to back, to the skeleton dial. Movement is based on the Swiss Soprod S.A. but heavily modified to Stepan’s liking. It includes a moonphase complication that’s designed in-house as well. A hand-built box will accompany this rare watch upon purchase. $TBA.
