Looks like the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team is running away with the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship. This early, the team has shown exceptional performance that no other team poses a real threat to them. There are plenty of races to go but the superb performance of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg propelled them to the top two spots in the Drivers’ Championship. IWC Schaffhausen is a principal sponsor for the team and the watchmakers are proud to release two new models in the Ingenieur lineup. The first one is this, the Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance Ceramic. Like modern Formula 1 cars, the material of choice for this model is carbon fiber. Known for its incredible strength and light weight, the material forms the 46mm-wide case of this model, Ref. IW322404. The same material can be found on the dial, featuring that familiar thatch that needs to further design changes because of its inherent good looks. The black motif is nicely contrasted by the bright green seconds marker as well as the tip of the seconds hand. A polished ceramic bezel enhances the style of the watchface. Flip the watch over and you’ll see more inspiration from a car’s engines, including the three piston arrangement for the rotor. Animating the watch is an IWC Manufacture 80110 automatic calibre with 28 jewels and a 44-hour power reserve plus a date complication. Finally, the black rubber strap continues the sporty look of the Ingenieur Automatic Carbon Performance Ceramic. Only 1,000 samples will be made. $TBD.
