Airplanes don’t always fly in a straight line. Some drift occurs along its journey, thanks to crosswinds. If uncorrected, this can lead to a totally wrong direction and problems for the pilots and/or his passengers. Solving that in the most stylish way is the Hamilton Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono Limited Edition. This pilot’s watch has a drift angle calculator built right in the watch’s dial. It operates through two crowns: one on the 2 o’clock and the other at the 4 o’clock position. Rotate the lower crown according to the wind direction and the upper bezel on the perimeter of the dial adjusts accordingly. Factor in the aircraft’s speed, magnetic bearing and crosswind component, and you can determine your correct bearing. You then adjust the crown at the 2 o’clock to indicate just that. The Khaki X-Wind has a three subdial format, with a useful chronograph function for pilots plus a day/date indicator by the 9 o’clock position. The movement is based on the Valjoux 7750 with some minor changes by Hamilton to make it their own. Changes like a criss-crossed ‘H’ pattern for the bridge and the company logo on the rotor. Not a pilot? It’s alright, this is still a beautiful watch that can be useful for a number of ways. Only 1,999 samples will be made. $2,395.
